MAKING IMPACT
Why am I Here?
In the maiden post on Making Impact, we outlined five important questions which any individual willing to make impact must find genuine answers to. We would go over these questions again for the sake of our friends just reading this post, and as a means of refreshing our memories. They include, Who am I? Where am I from? Why am I Here? What can I do? , and Where am I going? Attempts have been made to answer the first two questions. We encourage you to read through over and again to glean necessary knowledge before proceeding. You would be glad you did. When you consider the questions, you would realize that they are chronological in nature; that was very deliberate.
So, let's begin with the third question, 'Why am I Here?' This is a question that bothers on purpose. Make it personal, 'Why am I here?' 'Why do I get turned on by certain things and get furiously irritated by others?' 'Why do I find utmost ease in doing certain things, yet struggle inspite of several sessions of practises and pep-talk to make a head way in others? 'Why do I just love to talk, talk, talk, talk and talk? "Why do I get charmed by pictures and artistic ingenuity? " Oh! 'Why would I choose to go on empty stomach till I finish reading books?' 'Why do children find comfort in my arms, even as a man? 'Why do I end up being so concerned about peoples issues than the people themselves? 'Why do people call me only when they have quarrels to settle?' "Why do I just love to sing?" Can you imagine? What could have come over me that I would face empty mirror and be talking as if I were seeing seas of heads? We could go on, and on, and on. The answer to these questions and many more is simple; it is your purpose that is calling out to you. It is welling up within you to find expression without.
Your purpose, if found and fulfilled meticulously will be your legacy here and afterwards. If I may ask, do you know the father of Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple Computers? Were the Isrealities concerned about who the mother of David was? Are you concerned about which school the Wright brothers attended? All men have weaknesses. Yes! Have you for once pondered, 'What are the weaknesses of Don Moen, that amazing song writer, composer, instrumentalist and minister of God? You are not really concerned. Let's bring it closer. When you rush an accident victim to the hospital, do you ask, the nurse on duty, 'Are you from my state of origin?' Who does that? These people found their purpose, and that's what their generation and many more will remember them for. Your purpose is found in the problems you solved. It is found in the giving up of yourself to making the world a better place to live in, with definite and unmistakable proofs.
The discovery of purpose among others begins with a discovery of identity. This was why I encouraged you to read up earlier posts. It progresses to careful considerations of the things you do with utmost ease and natural delight. Economically speaking, you readily find your purpose in areas where you have comparative advantage. What were you doing as as an innocent child when you mind was yet to be flooded with material rewards and gain for efforts. Furthermore, you find your purpose in the things, circumstances, situations, 'abnormalities' that catches your attention, while others look away as if all is well. Don't blame them; you are seeing your purpose and reacting. When they see theirs, they will respond. Its like the Nervous System: a coordinated system of responding to stimuli. Every living thing responds at one point or the other. We might not all respond to the same message. Certainly not. Nonetheless, when you get YOUR message, you will respond. I remember that in Integrated Science, which is now christened to Basic Science and Technology (BST), we call it, 'Irritability'. It is one of the attributes of living things that makes them respond to stimuli.
One vital thing I should add before we wrap up is this, don't feel inferior by your message. Contrary to popular beliefs, it was not chosen by you, rather it was designed for you. Take it, own it, live it, fulfil it, and leave a legacy for humanity.
Join the conversation. What sparks up the flame in you? What do you want to be remembered for? Share with people and encourage someone. Your message could start finding expression from here. Start pouring them in. Begin right here!
