"Who am I?" is one of the important question anyone conscious about fulfilling purpose should be asking. Basically, there are two dimensions to this question. The first bothers on inferiority, that is, "who am I to be this honoured or who am I to be this appreciated?" While the second bothers on identity. This latter part will form the thrust of this post. The keyword here is identity. So, what is identity? Identity is who you are. It is the way you think about yourself, the way you are viewed by the world, and the characteristics that define you. David Benner, defined identity as "who we experience ourselves to be - the I each of us carries within".
What defines your identity? Many a times, people define their identity by their culture, language spoken, gender, family and friends, media, their interest or hobbies, and a whole lot of others factors. While this is in order, it may not be the full picture of who you really are. If you define your identity by the afore mentioned factors, what happens when you suffer major setbacks which disrupts the very foundation on which your 'identity' was built over time. Therefore, a stable sense of self cannot fully exist when you base your identity on external things, for when your circumstances change, your identity follows suit.
" When Jesus came into the coast of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, sayin g, whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And they said, some say thou art John the Baptist: some Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. He saith unto them, But say ye that I am? And Simeon answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee; but my father which is in heaven". While it is in order to ask questions from people about their perception of your identity, just as Jesus did, nonetheless, a true revelation of your identity can only come from your maker: your father in heaven.
You have a destiny to fulfill. Find it and live it.
