Arise means wake up; stand up; open your eyes; take your place; to come to an awareness of what is happening. Rom. 13: 11-12. On the other hand, to shine means to manifest; to reveal; to standout; to glow; to illuminate; to burn to a point of drawing attention. Rom 8:19 says, “For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God”. Therefore, arise and shine means stand up and manifest; wake up and take charge; open your eyes and take your rightful place. If you want to shine, you need to arise first. Luke 15:17-18, “And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! See what he said afterwards “I will arise and go to my father…”
…for your light is come. You rise and shine when your light comes. When the Bible says your light is come, it means at a point, the light was absent, and darkness ruled over. Until light comes, glory cannot manifest. Psalms 27:1, “The LORD is my light and salvation whom shall I fear…” Yes! JESUS is the light of the world, but then, is he your own light? The more you draw closer to HIM, and He to you, there is a continual fellowship between you both. 1 John 1:7, “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin” (personal progressive walk). That fellowship brings power, wisdom and direction that will ultimately bring us out of darkness.
Verse 2 reads, “Behold, the darkness will cover the earth and gross darkness the people, but the LORD will rise upon thee and his glory shall be seen on thee”. From there, we realize that the system of the world and the people in it will be enveloped in thick darkness, yet in that same environment there will be people shining as if darkness does not even exist. Why? The LORD will arise upon thee! That is our first prayer point: Oh GOD, arise upon me. While some are groaning under darkness, in the same environment, others will be shining, because of the depth of light they know and live by. Ecc. 10:7 says, “Light is sweet and it’s a pleasant thing to behold the sun”. And because light is sweet, verse3 of Ish 60 says, “And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising”. Light is not only sweet, it is also a magnet; it has power to draw. Gentiles are unbelievers; those who wouldn’t want to associate with anything Christ, but the light on you can draw them. Matt 5: 16 says, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your father which is in heaven”. The word “let” also means permit or allow. It therefore means there is something you can do to make your light shine. “So” is used there to qualify the intensity of the light. IT can shine brighter and brighter. Prov. 4:18. Therefore, how much and how far your light shines determines those it would attract. In Matt. 2:1-2, who advertised JESUS to the wise men who came all the way from the east to worship him. Who advertised King Solomon to the Queen of Sheba? 1 Kings 4:34; 1 Kings 10:1-5, 7.

Whatever, it will cost you, make a resolute commitment to seek and walk in the LIGHT.
