WHEN THE HEAVENS OPEN…(Volume 1)




Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened. Luke 3:21

It is a most wonderful experience when the heavens open unto a person. However, it’s a life of bliss to continue to live under open heavens; such an experience transcends any mortal’s imagination. Therefore, to perpetually dwell under open heavens should be the utmost cravings of any person. Every other thing that is important to life and godliness can be received by the inhabitants of open heavens. 

For the heavens to open over an individual, certain requirements must be met. Some of these requirements are clearly seen in our anchor text. The first thing that happened was that though He is The Messiah, Jesus still submitted himself to be baptized. The heavens could open unto Jesus after He had submitted Himself to be baptized. You know even John the Baptist almost resisted Him; He had to tell him to allow the word of God to come to pass. Therefore, if you would fulfill your part own part in obeying God’s instructions, He will respond to you, so much that even your simple and short prayers will have amazing results. 

Another requirement for open heavens is to be baptized. Baptism means to be immersed or submerged in something. Baptism is of three-fold, and anyone genuinely seeking for open heavens must actively pass through them. There is baptism into Christ and His body. This is when you become one with Christ; when your will becomes submerged in His will; when you start living your life to please God alone. Baptism into Christ and His body occurs when you genuinely surrender your life completely to Jesus Christ. This is a fundamental requirement for open heavens seekers. The second aspect of this three-fold baptism is the actual water baptism, when you become literarily immersed in a flowing river. By this process, you are publicly identifying with the death, burial and resurrection of The Lord Jesus Christ. When Jesus was baptized in river Jordan (a flowing river), the heavens opened over Him. In the same vein, if you would go through water baptism in the correct and scripturally prescribed manner, the heavens will open over you also. The third and last aspect of the three-fold baptism is the Holy Ghost baptism.  This is so crucial that Jesus had to emphatically tell His disciples in Luke 24:49, “Tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem until ye be endued with power from on high”. How does the power from on high come? It is through the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Prayers is an essential factor for the heavens to open. You will notice that the bible says “…it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened. It wasn’t Jesus alone that John was baptizing; there were many of them, Jesus only came to join the queue. However, He did something beyond what the rest did: He prayed. Jesus went to the water praying, He came out still praying, and while He kept praying, the heavens opened. It was as Jesus continued in prayers that the heavens opened. You can now begin to understand why the 1 Thess 5:17 says: Pray without ceasing. I believe this is so that heavens can continually be opened over us. A balanced prayer should consist of Adoration, Confessions, Supplications, Intercessions, and Thanksgivings. Praying always does not only mean you are to remain confined in a solitary place for the purpose of prayers. Much more than that, it is about a lifestyle of unbroken communion with God Almighty.
