A treasure is
something very valuable, hence it is highly esteemed. Whatever you consider
valuable, you hold or keep it dearly to your heart. This is why Matt. 6:21 says, “Wherever your treasure is, there your heart
is”. This thing that is very valuable and precious is not in heaven. As
great, mighty and beautiful as the heaven is, these treasures are not there.
These treasures are here on earth. As a matter of fact, these treasures are not just on earth, they are
found inside vessels in the earth. It is when these vessels on earth release
the treasures in them that the earth can be blessed. Romans 8:19 says, “For the earnest expectation of the
creations waiteth for the manifestations of the sons of God”. These treasures
are meant to be used to bless the earth; they are not needed heaven.
“But
we have this treasure in earthen vessels…” The treasures are inside
earthen vessels - vessels made from the earth. The word “earth” also means
“sand” or “ground”. Genesis 2:8 says, “God
made man from the dust of the ground, and breathe into his nostril the breadth
of life and man became a living soul”. We are earthen vessels because we
are formed from the dust of the ground. King Davis in one of his psalms said,
“you know my frame that I am dust”.
“…that the excellency of the power may be of
God and not of us”. The treasure in
us is compared to power. Actually, the treasure in us is power. Power means
ability. Infact, treasures also means abilities. God placed these treasures
inside of us, therefore, as we begin to use it, the excellency, glory and
praise that results from the use of these treasures belongs to God
Almighty, who is the rightful owner and
giver of the treasures.
These treasures
which also means talents or abilities are God-given. God does not give wealth,
He only gives power to get it. He gives power to make or acquire wealth. It is when these treasure, talents, and
abilities are judiciously uded that wealth is generated. For example, you may
possess a 24-gold karat and still starve for a long time to come because gold
by itself is not edible. It is when you sell this gold carat that income is
generated for you. Jesus said in John 12:24, “Except a corn of what fall into the ground, it abideth alone…” If
the talents or abilities are not released, they can’t be made available, let
alone multiply. Have you ever seen an unplanted maize growing?
There is no one
without a treasure. The mere fact that you are human automatically makes you a
earthen vessel, and being an earthen vessel simply means you have a treasure
inside you. Therefore, it becomes your primary responsibility to look inward.
These treasures are there in you; some are manifest while others are latent. In
2 Kings 4:1-7, The widow of the prophet once said, “ have nothing”, but quickly
she look inward very deeply and said, “I have a pot of oil”. It was not that the pot of oil suddenly
emerged from nowhere or that an angel was immediately dispatched from heaven to quickly put the pot of oil in the widow’s
house and disappear back to heaven before anyone could know what was happening.
The pot had been there all this while. Even
if what the widow had was a drop of oil, it still would have been
sufficient, let alone a pot of oil. Whether it is a pot of oil or a drop of
oil, oil is oil. Afterall it is droplets of waters, not pot of waters that
makes a mighty ocean. Whether droplets of water or mighty ocean, water is
water.Halleluyah! The scriptures cannot be broken, you have something and It is not just anything; it is a TREASURE.
You are not
empty! That’s the goodnews. If really there is no treasure inside of you, Jesus
would not have said to you in Luke 19:13, “Occupy
till I come”. If He gave you nothing, He wouldn’t have asked you to be
occupied, because there will be nothing to be occupied it. Have you seen a
vaccum occupying another vaccum?
