“And say to Archippus Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord that thou fulfil it”. Colossians 4:17
At the mention of the word “ministry”, what comes to the mind of many is church. However, this is not totally true. Ministry basically means reaching out. Therefore when an individual is doing ministry, such a person is reaching out. According to Ephesians 4:11, the scriptures reveals that there are five(5) ministerial office. These are Apostles, Prophets, Evangelist, Pastors, and Teachers. It worthy of note that these aforementioned ministry is not a one way traffic, in other words, it is people oriented. Even if you think you are not in these categories just mentioned, you still have something of great value deposited on the inside of you that is meant to be used in reaching out. You should accept this humble fact, particularly with the realization that the way God created human being is such that we need ourselves. You need me and I need you.
Ministry can also be seen as your God given assignment to humanity. In doing ministry (reaching out), challenges will come. As a matter of fact, prepare for them. One of the most important condition in fulfilling your ministry is, WATCH IN ALL THINGS. Whether things are fine or not, you are required to watch in all things. Even as you pray, you must watch because I Cor10:12 says, even those standing can fall. It’s only those who are down that need fear no fall. Some of the pitfalls are wealth, women, pleasure etc. It’s almost impossible to front slide or side slide, because you can see your front and watch yourside. However, it’s very possible to backslide, because you can’t see your back. The devil knows this salient truth, hence he’s hunting desperately for preys. May he not record success over you and your ministry. Apostle Paul believed firmly in this strategy for fulfilling ministry, that he warned in Ephesians 4:27, “Neither give place to the devil”
ENDURE AFFLICTION. This is another condition that must be fulfilled by the person who wants to fulfil ministry. Afflictions are not to be ran away from, according to our anchor scriptures, they are to be endured. 2 Timothy 2:2, says, “Endure hardness as a good soldier of Christ. When you fellowship with Jesus Christ in suffering, you will also fellowship with Him together when the glory shall be revealed. According to Hebrews 11:25, Moses was able to endure the wilderness because he saw Him who was invisible. Even Jesus Christ endured the cross, because He saw the glory ahead. So you would not be an exception. The good news is that the afflictions are just for a while. More so, the bible says they are “Light Affliction”, which will last for a moment. What is a moment? Something like nanoseconds or seconds. Another good news is that when you have gone through these light afflictions, you are better placed because of the experience you have, and you have a story to tell humanity. You are an authority over the issues of your life; no one does it better than you. The afflictions should be endured because according 2 Corinthians 4:17 states that, “But our light affliction, which is just but for a moment worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory”.
